My name is Mel Grau. I’m a writer and marketing specialist with experience in a wide variety of industries, including news media, healthcare, tourism, and art. My background is in journalism, so I am most passionate when my job includes storytelling and addressing real human issues that impact local communities.

I chose to leave my last job to take a self-funded sabbatical and write my way around the world. Indeed, it was as incredible as it sounds. I heard a volcano erupt while I was scuba diving. I ate live worms. And I interviewed fascinating people. You can find my travel writing at MissivesFromAbroad.com.
Now I am back in the United States working at the nonprofit Poynter Institute for Media Studies as the marketing communications writer. I operate at the intersection of education and journalism, promoting the need for both in modern democracies.
I continue to work as a marketing consultant and freelance writer outside of my day job. If you’d like to collaborate, let’s talk!
